Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Ohlone Wilderness 50K run for 2020 has been at least postponed for 2020. Normally, it is held on the third weekend in May and we support it by manning the aid station at Maggies Half Acre and hand out wrist bands at the summit of Rose Peak (how the runners prove they went to the top) To get to our campsite at Maggies Half Acre, we hike in 10 miles which includes ~3500 foot of elevation gain, the hike is considered “Very Strenuous” by the National Park System rating calculator ( https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/how-to-determine-hiking-difficulty.htm ) It is not recommended as a first backpacking trip unless someone is in very good physical condition. An excellent training hike for Philmont, you won’t have many more difficult days.
The hike is along the Ohlone Regional Wilderness trail beginning at the Sunol Visitor’s Center
