When Preparation Meets Opportunity

What is the Scout Motto?     (Be prepared)

Here is a saying you may not have heard before:  Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

Let me say that again:  Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.

What does that mean? Let me give you an example:

Last weekend several older scouts, the SPL an ASPL and a patrol leader made themselves available for any scout that wanted to get signed off by demonstrating first-aid skills that were taught over the past several meetings. Three scouts showed up and did their demonstrations and got signed off.

But guess what else happened? A couple of the scouts came prepared to discuss and demonstrate other skills and requirements. When it was all said and done, more non-First-aid requirements were approved and signed off than First-aid requirements.

So for the Scouts that were prepared, they took the opportunity and were “lucky” enough to get additional requirements approved and signed off.
